Air conditioning

This condo is equipped with three A/C units that provide cold air in the majority of the rooms. Unfortunately, the main floor bedroom cannot be equipped with an AC unit since there is no more space to add one in the building. Rest assured that the main floor bedroom has a huge and powerful fan that will keep you cool at night!

OPERATING MODE
Cool mode: Make sure that the A/C unit is set to cool mode. To verify, simply check the remote control for the cool logo and not a fan logo. If you see a fan logo, just press the mode button on the remote control to switch from fan to cool air. You can use the up and down arrows to raise or lower the temperature.
Kindly practice responsible consumption and consider energy conservation whenever possible.

FLUSHING TOILET PAPER

In Cartagena, and potentially in the rest of Colombia, flushing toilet paper is not recommended due to the older plumbing infrastructure, which may not be well-equipped to handle toilet paper. Please dispose of the paper (and anything else) in the wastebaskets located next to the toilet bowl. Please note that service fees may apply if the toilet becomes clogged due to the improper disposal of toilet paper.

Door Lock

The Yale smart lock allows you to lock and unlock the door with ease using the touchscreen. To unlock the door, simply press the Yale logo in the top center, which wakes up the keypad. Then enter the code that was provided to you either the day before or on the day of your arrival, and finally, press the checkmark symbol. This will unlock the door

STove - Oven

Safety First: Start by emphasizing safety. Make sure there are no flammable materials nearby, and ensure good ventilation in the kitchen.

Turning It On:

Locate the gas stovetop knob. It's usually on the front panel.
Turn the knob to the left (counter-clockwise) to the "Ignite" or "Light" position. You will hear gas flowing; this is normal.
Once the gas is flowing, press the knob to ignite the burner ( you will hear clicking sound, this is normal). Hold the button until it lights.

Setting the Flame:

After the burner ignites, you can adjust the flame height by turning the knob.
Turning it to the right (clockwise) increases the flame for higher heat, while turning it to the left (counter-clockwise) decreases the flame for lower heat.
Cooking:

Place your cookware on the burner and adjust the flame to the desired heat level.
Remember that the burner will continue to release gas as long as it's turned on, so never leave it unattended.
Turning It Off:

When you're finished cooking, turn the knob all the way to the right (clockwise) to the "Off" position.
This will shut off the gas flow to the burner, and the flame will go out.
Safety Check:

Before leaving the kitchen, double-check that the flame is completely extinguished. Sometimes a small, nearly invisible flame can persist, so be thorough.

TV

The apartment is equipped with two Google Smart TVs. You can watch live TV, or you can use your tablet or smartphone to cast your desired media onto the TVs.

Washer/Dryer

The apartment is equipped with a washer and dryer that perform both functions in the same unit. Please see the pictures below to set the machine to wash only, dry only, or to do both at the same time:

To toggle between wash, dry, or wash and dry mode, press the 'Lavar / Secar' button:

WASH AND DRY MODE:
When you see that there is a display on the left (blue) and on right side (orange) , this means that it is set to wash and dry mode.

Once you have chosen your mode, make sure to set the rotating dial to 'normal' and then press the 'play' (start) button.

Please be aware that choosing the wash and dry mode can last up to 4 hours. Also, if you notice that the door is still locked once the cycle is finished, don't panic. Just press the power button, and the door will unlock within 30 minutes. This simply means that the clothes are hot and need to cool off before opening the door.

WIFI

The apartment features a dedicated fiber optic internet connection with an SSID of 'OPTO 502B'. You will receive the password via email or via the WhatsApp application on the day of your arrival.

GETTING AROUND IN CARTAGENA

Getting around in Cartagena, Colombia, can be an enjoyable experience, as the city is known for its vibrant atmosphere and historic charm. Here are some common transportation options for navigating Cartagena:

Walking: The historic walled city of Cartagena is relatively small and can easily be explored on foot. Many of the main attractions, restaurants, and shops are within walking distance of each other. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes, as you'll likely be doing a lot of walking.

Taxis: Taxis are readily available throughout Cartagena and can be a convenient way to get around, especially if you're traveling with a group or carrying heavy luggage. Make sure to use official taxis with meters, and it's a good idea to agree on the fare before starting the ride, as some taxis may not use meters.

Bicycles: Some areas of Cartagena, especially the Bocagrande and Laguito neighborhoods, are bike-friendly. You can rent bicycles from various rental shops or through bike-sharing programs if available.

Horse-drawn Carriages: In the historic center, you'll find horse-drawn carriages that offer guided tours of the city. This can be a charming and leisurely way to explore the historic district.

Public Transportation: Cartagena has a public bus system, known as Transcaribe, which can be an affordable way to get around the city. The system connects various parts of Cartagena, including the historic center, Bocagrande, and other neighborhoods.

Chivas: Chivas are colorful, open-air buses that offer a festive and unique way to tour the city. They often play music and can be a fun option for group tours.

Boats and Ferries: Given Cartagena's coastal location, boats and ferries are also a means of transportation to nearby islands and beaches. You can take a boat to the Rosario Islands or the nearby Isla Barú for a day trip or longer.

Ride-Sharing Apps: Uber and other ride-sharing apps are available in Cartagena and can provide a more convenient and predictable way to get around, especially if you're concerned about taxi pricing.

Renting a Car: While not always necessary within the city, renting a car can be useful if you plan to explore the surrounding areas or take day trips. However, be aware that traffic in Cartagena can be chaotic, and parking can be challenging in some areas.

Walking Tours: Joining a guided walking tour is an excellent way to learn about the city's history and culture while exploring its streets. Many local companies offer walking tours of the historic center.

Remember to exercise caution when using public transportation or taxis to ensure your safety. Be aware of your surroundings, keep your belongings secure, and use reputable service providers whenever possible.
